EQUIPMENT AND CAPABILITIES
At NAF there are three furnaces – two are box type and one is a moving hood type furnace that is capable of annealing, normalizing, tempering, stress relieving and slow cooling the largest forgings that NAF can produce. - Car bottom, tip-up, and pit furnaces with capacities to 23.2 meters (76 ft.) long or 6.1 meters (20 ft.) in diameter
- 189.3 kiloliter (50,000-gallon) water quench tank for bars and hollows up to 9.1 meters (30ft.)
- 590.5 kiloliter (156,000-gallon) polymer quench tank for bars and hollows up to 9.1 meters (30ft.)
- 159 kiloliter (42,000-gallon) polymer/water quench pit tank for rings to 6.1 meters (20 ft.) diameter
- 480.7 kiloliters (127,000-gallon) polymer/water quench tank for product 11.1 meters (436 in.) wide each or 24.8 meters (978 in.)
- Vertical heat treating capability for shafts and hollow or sleeve forgings:
- Over 10.5 meters (35 ft.) in length
- Weights up to 40 metric tons (88,000 lbs.)
- Heat stability testing capability for large vertically heat treated steam turbine rotors
